Race 5 and 6 Race Report

 

Thursdays racing took place in almost perfect conditions, a force three Westerly breeze gave competitors a lively race, with the first general recall of the series and the use of the "I" Flag made the competitors realise the PRO was going to stand no disorder on the start line, After the restart Martin and Eleanor moved quickly into the lead to gain their third bullet of the week, Dave and Anne Pugh gained their first top three result whilst Mandy Mitchell crewed by Jon Close moved up one place yards from the finish to snatch third place from Chris and Gill Beddows.

Race six started after a short break, the quick race turn around has become a hallmark of PRO Francois Pedro's excellent race management. With the breeze picking up to 16 knots and veering North Westerly competitors expected a tough race, Ian and Emma Sinclair from Bolton SC lead by thirty seconds at the windward mark never to be headed, Mandy Mitchell and Jon Close finished second with Martin Warburton finishing third, this was enough to clinch the title for Martin and Eleanor with a day to spare.

 

Numerous places are still to be decided in both the Silver and Bronze fleets as a result of Fridays races, for Martin Warburton and crew Eleanor Davies from South Staffs SC, they are the 2009 Eurocup Champions, congratulations and well sailed.
