Open World SL 16 : a high-level championship
The RS Feva and Tera just gone, the SL16 take possession of the Carnac YC for their World Championship which will take place from August 2nd to 7th in the bay of Quiberon. The Carnac Yacht Club is waiting for about thirty teams and is getting down to the last preparations: organization of the dinghy park, registration and equipment for the races.
Created from the blueprint of the SL 15.5, the SL 16 was changed by Yves Loday and Sirena to meet the specifications of the ISAF, making the SL 16 the official catamaran of the International Sailing Federation in 2003. It's a fast and responsive boat, much appreciated by sailing fans for the sensations it brings.
The French SL 16 class association and its chairman Vincent Guého have chosen the Carnac YC for its recognized skills in organizing regattas and the bay of Quiberon for its stable wind and its flat sea, qualities much estimated by the catamaran aficionados, hence the unequalled success of the Eurocat for almost 25 years.
All the great features of the SL 16 are here and among the competitors, the last four years podiums are present. Thus, Romain Bellet, 2009 World Open Champion and 2008 ISAF World Champion, has made the trip, he is accompanied this time by Manon Audinet. Emeric Dary, 2010 French Champion, will also be here with Joris Cocaud. The Carnac YC teams will also be part of the event with Loïs Berrehar and Emmanuel de Colombel, who usually sail on SL 15.5 and wouldn't have missed this championship. Gauthier Lebec can also be found on the entry list. Gauthier sails all year round with Amélie Grassi on SL 15.5 and will be this time accompanied by Thibaud Maubert, 2010 French Champion on Hobie Cat 16. Along the French competitors, Denmark, Bahreïn and United States of America will be represented, as well as Great-Britain represented by its champion Nicola Boniface.
The level is high for this competition which claims to be federative and convivial. Indeed, next to these champions, hardened to regatta practices, you can find SL 16 owners who more or less start in competition. The idea is to gather as much people as possible, persons who have the same passion, and to share good moments offshore and ashore. This week will therefore be set under the sign of competition and good humour with competitors keen on measuring to one another from Tuesday with a practice race.
